Residents from inland Queensland communities are preparing to clean up for the third time in two years, says Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce.
Floodwaters have damaged 280 homes near the town of Mitchell, where evacuations occurred at the weekend.
"(They) feel like they've been forgotten," Senator Joyce said.
"They literally went to bed and the water wasn't near the house, and they woke up and it was through the roof."
At nearby Roma about 380 homes have suffered some form of damage.
"There are so many people who are beside themselves because they have got to fix their carpets, fix their floorboards, pull out the gyprock - do all those jobs once again, the third time in two years," Senator Joyce told the Seven Network on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Balonne River is expected to peak sometime on Tuesday morning with the levees protecting the town of St George likely to hold.
Thousands of people have been evacuated from the cotton-growing centre and taken to Dalby and Brisbane.
"They've done a great job getting the levee in (but) the people outside the levee have been inundated," said Senator Joyce, who lives at St George.
"We've got now the capacity to find the line, defend the line, which is the levee bank, but that is cold comfort for the people who have been inundated ...
"We've also got the issue of trying to clean up and assist people as much as we can so we can get people back home."
