The family of a young woman believed to have been killed by fugitive Malcolm Naden has spoken of their anguish that he has not yet been caught.
There have been no confirmed sightings of Australia’s most wanted man, who has eluded police for the past seven years, since last December when he escaped officers at a farm house near Nowendoc in western NSW.
The mother of Dubbo woman Lateesha Nolan has waited anxiously for news of Naden’s capture, so she can at last have some answers about what happened to her 24-year-old daughter.
Joan Nolan told Nine News she had accepted her daughter was dead, but she was still searching for closure for herself and her grandchildren.
Lateesha Nolan has not been seen since January 4, 2005, when she dropped her children off at her grandmother's house.
Two days later, her car was found abandoned on the banks of the Macquarie River.
Police believe Naden, who is Lateesha's cousin, was involved in her disappearance.
"She is a person, not just a missing person poster," Ms Nolan told Nine News.
"Someone has done something really bad and killed her...buried her out in the bush, you know, like just rubbish to them."
Shaqkaila Nolan, who was only eight months old when her mother died, told Nine News she wished she could remember her.
"We wish she was here so we could say mum to her," she said.
"All we say it is to her picture and we kiss her good night and say, good night mum."
Naden is believed to have been living off the land since 2005 after he allegedly strangled Lateesha's friend Kristy Scholes.
He has broken into more than 20 homes in the Barrington Tops and surrounding areas, stealing food and alcohol and using the internet to access porn and stay updated on the progress of the police search.
