Two murderers have mocked their victim's family as they were sentenced to life in jail.

Family of slain man Edward Rzepnicki, 63, shouted "suffer you cockroaches", while his killers Michael John Stephens and Rhys Heffernan laughed and blew kisses into the body of the court as they were sentenced to at least 20 years in jail.

The pair were found guilty of robbing and stabbing the man after he invited them to his house in August 2009.

In sentencing at the South Australian Supreme Court on Thursday, Justice Michael David said the pair took advantage of an old man's generosity by killing him and stealing from him after he invited them over for a drink.

"He lived with his sister and was vulnerable and generous to you," the judge said.

The court previously heard Mr Rzepnicki probably thought it was his lucky day on August 14, 2009, when his AFL team won a match, then he won more than $324 on the pokies when he went out to celebrate.

He tipped his local bar staff before heading off home early the next morning to Woodville in Adelaide's north, where he was stabbed in the heart during a fight with the two strangers he invited to his house.

Mr Rzepnicki, a father of two, was found dead by his sister after she woke to find the front door of their unit open and the television gone.
