L-plater charged after Sydney teen's death

A teenage L-plate driver has been charged with dangerous driving after a 14-year-old boy was knocked over and killed in Sydney's southwest.

The 14-year-old boy was struck by a Nissan Pulsar in Biloela Street in Villawood about 8pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

When emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the teenager lying on the nature strip with significant injuries, police said.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition but died at about 6am on Sunday.

A 17-year-old was later arrested at a nearby house and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was later released.

He underwent mandatory blood and urine tests.

He was re-arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and being an unaccompanied learner driver.

He has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Children's Court on Monday.

The Crash Investigation Unit are continuing investigations into the crash and cannot rule out laying further charges, police said.
