Molly Meldrum is improving "week by week" but may have lasting problems resulting from his fall, a health care professional involved in his treatment says.

Professor John Olver, Director of Rehabilitation at Epworth Hospital where the entertainment guru is being treated, said Meldrum can only take mild mental stimulation.

"Having two close friends or family to visit is all he can cope with at this stage and only for short periods," Prof Oliver told Seven Network in a program aired on Sunday.

"We know that with the tests that we are using that he is improving week by week," he said.

"(But) there is the likelihood that there are some areas that won't return to normal."

Meldrum, who turned 66 last month, suffered serious head injuries after falling three metres at his Richmond home on December 15.

He spent five weeks at Melbourne's The Alfred hospital before being transferred to the Epworth Rehabilitation Hospital.

He suffered from post-traumatic amnesia, with symptoms including short-term memory loss and disorientation.

His personal assistant and close friend Yael Cohn said it was like his brain was rewiring.

"It's been scrambled and it has to rewire itself," Ms Cohn told Seven Network.

"Sometimes he's aware of what's happened to him but other times he's not.

"One minute he knows he's in hospital, he knows he has had a fall, the next minute he is in Paris about to catch a plane to go and see Madonna in concert."

Ms Cohn said despite his injuries, Meldrum was still the same person.

"The same mannerisms, the same characteristics, the same sense of humour, the same thoughts. It's just a little bit scrambled, so yeah he's the same person already," she said.
