A man has fallen 5m from the balcony of a Townsville apartment after he allegedly tried to peer in at a naked couple inside.
The couple were in their first floor home at the Watermark apartments on the Strand on Saturday night when the man fell from the balcony, the Townsville Bulletin reports.
"I was standing out there butt-naked, " said the resident, who is in his 60s and did not want to be identified.
"He jumped down on to the fence and thought he was going to get away. It's swung open, he's jumped on it, gone leg up and flown headfirst into the concrete. "
The 55-year-old intruder, who was bleeding badly, lay injured on the ground for 20 minutes before police and an ambulance arrived.
The man in the apartment said he called an ambulance after initially phoning the police.
"They wanted me to render assistance, but he'd breached security and I wasn't going to assist him," the man said.
The resident's wife said she was getting ready to go to bed when she had the "uncomfortable" sensation of being watched and saw the man on her balcony when she went to shut the blinds.
The woman said she thought the man "was definitely up to no good".
However, the intruder, who is recovering from his injuries, has not been charged.
"The residents got a bit of a fright. It's pitch dark and he's lucky he didn't break his neck, " Townsville Police Inspector Steve Kersley said.
He added that police do not believe the man is linked to any sexual offences that have occurred in the area.
The intruder is the fourth person to fall from the Watermark apartment complex in four years.
