It's believed a short circuit caused a fire that closed Charleville Hospital just days after it reopened following floods in the Queensland town.

The hospital reopened on Tuesday after an electrical fire damaged the hospital's main switchboard and cut power to most of the facility on Monday.

Two patients were evacuated to an adjoining nursing home. Some aged-care residents who had been evacuated from the home amid the flood threat had to delay their return.

The hospital had reopened only on Friday after the flood threat eased.

Queensland Health district chief operations officer Meryl Brumpton said the hospital patients are expected to return on Tuesday and the rest of the aged care residents are now being returned to the nursing home.

She said a short circuit appeared to have caused the electrical fire and spare parts had to be sourced from Toowoomba to repair the hospital's switchboard.

"Electrical contractors worked very hard this morning to get the hospital up and running again as soon as possible," Ms Brumpton said in a statement.
