The Queensland government is close to meeting its 2009 election promise to deliver 100,000 new jobs, Treasurer Andrew Fraser says.

Mr Fraser on Tuesday told state parliament Queensland was the jobs capital of Australia.

"The latest jobs data has us close to meeting our commitment to deliver a net new 100,000 jobs this term (of government)," he said.

"In fact, we generated more jobs than any other state in December.

"The latest stats show we generated more jobs than any other state over the last 12 months."

Of the net 25,900 jobs created across the nation last year, 16,400 were in Queensland, Mr Fraser said.

"We said we stood for jobs and we are delivering."

The Liberal National Party (LNP) has promised that it will create 240,000 new jobs in two terms if it is elected to government on March 24.

An LNP government would reduce unemployment to five per cent after three years and to four per cent after six.

Labor is challenging the LNP to say when it would return the Queensland budget to surplus.
