A 47-year-old woman has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for laundering more than $100,000 stolen by a former business manager at Perth's Curtin University.

Joy Angela Sanderson pleaded guilty to two charges of property laundering after the university paid her money on the basis of false invoices submitted by the business manager between September 2009 and May 2010.

Sanderson returned most of the nearly $104,000 she received to the business manager, but kept $22,796, which was used to pay bills and take a trip, the District Court of Perth heard on Tuesday.

The charges against her followed an investigation by Western Australia's Corruption and Crime Commission after the matter was referred to it by the university.

Judge John Wisbey said imprisonment was the only appropriate punishment as Sanderson had been part of a criminal enterprise.

The university's former business manager, Tania Carter, has pleaded guilty to 401 charges of stealing, allegedly involving about $650,000.
