Rockstar bling will add plenty of attitude to the autumn-winter season, with Australian designers showcasing sequins, lame and mesh.

The likes of Collette Dinnigan, Alex Perry, Thurley and Camilla showed their lines on Wednesday night at the David Jones autumn-winter fashion launch.

The show, at the retail giant's Sydney CBD store, also heavily featured floral prints.

Australian model Miranda Kerr opened the event, strutting down the runway in a sophisticated Josh Goot navy wool tuxedo suit.

She later flaunted her feminine side in silk and velvet dresses by designers such as Scanlan and Theodore.

The usual wintry shades of navy, caramel, chocolate and black made an appearance, but many designers clearly weren't ready to let go of summer's "poppy" palette.

Fuschia is still hot, along with neon yellow, violet and ruby.

As for men, the standard blues, blacks, toffees and denims made up most of the designers' ranges.

Pencil-thin ties also continued to be popular, along with slim pants.

Ahead of the show, Collette Dinnigan described her latest collection as lady-like with elegant pieces in her signature French lace.

She has also added a few edgier designs and used shades of black, gold and sage.

"There's the kind of rock and roll chick and her silhouette's very loose on the top and sloppy ... and really cool and edgy with the shorter skirt," she told AAP.

The standout lines were as expected - Dinnigan, Goot, a very feminine Zimmermann and Perry, with a glamorous one-shoulder embellished gown.

Gracing the red carpet ahead of the show were celebrities Dannii Minogue and Delta Goodrem, as well as models Megan Gale and Jesinta Campbell.
