Kevin Rudd's daughter Jessica is flying home from Beijing for a family meeting about whether her father should contest the Labor leadership ballot.
Ms Rudd is encouraging people to overlook the messy situation and get involved in democracy.
"Tomorrow, when I fly in, I'm coming home to a political situation that most Australians think is a dog's breakfast," she wrote in a blog on the website Mamma Mia today.
"What's happening is ugly as. It's infuriating and it needs to be sorted out."
A pregnant Ms Rudd will be returning to Brisbane from Beijing where she lives with her husband.
She shared her experiences living in China which has limited political freedom in an effort to encourage Australians to contact their local Labor MP and have a say.
"You might think Julia Gillard is the ants pants. Fab. Say it," she said.
"You might think my Dad is ace. Cool. Write it. You might think everyone sucks. Scream it."
The young author said Australians should decide what happens.
"Let's own this spill, people. Let's make it ours," she said.
"Unlike my mates in China, we have no excuse for simply sitting back and letting it happen."
