A man and his wife have been killed while trying to restart their daughter's car on the Sunshine Motorway in southeast Queensland.

Allan and Kari Taylor, aged in their 50s, were stuck by a vehicle as they helped their 22-year-old daughter Ashleah whose car had broken down on the motorway at Sippy Downs around 4.15pm (AEST) on Wednesday.

Police said the Taylors were standing behind their sedan — parked in the emergency stopping lane — when their vehicle was struck by a four-wheel drive.

The 75-year-old driver was unhurt.

Police officers described the accident scene as "tragic" and "heartbreaking".

"They were standing at the rear of their vehicle, at the rear on the shoulder of the road," a police spokesperson said.

"They were struck by an oncoming vehicle."

Ashleah, due to be married in October, was taken to Nambour Hospital for shock.

Tributes have poured in for the family, who were reportedly well known in their community.

"They were two of the most amazing people.," friend Jane Issell was quoted in the Brisbane Times as saying.

"They are going to leave a massive hole."
