The world's biggest jetliner is getting a new autopilot system to improve safety.
Airbus confirmed on Friday the European Aviation Safety Agency had certified a new Auto-Pilot/Flight-Director (AP/FD) mode for its A380, which is capable of carrying up to 600 passengers.
"The main benefit of the system is that it could further enhance safety during a traffic avoidance situation because the pilot can now fly the aircraft without switching out of one mode and into another," the aerospace company said in a statement.
