A north Queensland psychologist had to hop onto her desk for safety after a 1.5m tall kangaroo crashed into her office and wreaked havoc.

Independent psychologist Suzanne Habib was working in her Atherton office on Wednesday when a loud crash against a window behind her alerted her to the "fairly big" roo.

Fearing for her safety, Ms Habib outleapt the roo onto her desk, only to find herself trapped inside the office, which is leased by Commonwealth Rehabilitation Services Australia (CRS).

CRS regional employment liaison officer Tony Baddock said he came to Ms Habib's rescue after hearing her emit a "very loud scream".

"Suzanne was working away on her laptop and the fairly big roo came up behind her and leaped at the window, which resulted in a big bang going off," he said.

"Poor ol' Suzanne just screamed and went straight up into the air," he said.

"The roo was bounding around all over the place, it was really quite frantic."

Mr Baddock said he then helped Suzanne over a bookcase to escape.

"After about six minutes ... the roo then came out of the office and headed towards the CRS rooms and I was then able to block its pathway and encourage it to head out the front door," he said.

"But on its way out towards Railway Lane, it nearly bounded over a lady from the printing place next door."

Mr Baddock said it was rare to see a roo in the township of Atherton, which is a fair distance from the bush.
