One of Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull's staffers has resigned after it was revealed he was linked to a YouTube video spoof comparing a Liberal backbencher to Hitler.

Media advisor Tom Tudehope had been connected to an email chain passing around a video portraying right-wing backbencher Alex Hawke as the former Nazi leader, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The YouTube clip takes footage from the German film Downfall and replaces the captions with dialogue discussing a Liberal Party branch-stacking operation in Sydney electorates.

While Mr Tudehope has denied any role in producing the video, his role in circulating the clip has reflected poorly on factional politics within the Opposition, and especially the relationship between Mr Turnbull and Mr Hawke.

Mr Tudehope narrowly avoided jail in April after the P-plater was arrested for driving with a 0.14 blood-alcohol reading.
