Two competitors in the Classic Adelaide Rally have died after their car hit a tree in the Adelaide Hills.

The crash occurred at Forreston just after 3.30pm (CDT) on Thursday killing both the driver and navigator at the scene, police said.

A spokesman said it was unclear if the deaths would be included in the state's road toll.
