A Perth father has put his 13-year-old daughter up for sale on the internet as punishment for wearing make-up to school, sparking calls to police from disgusted online shoppers.

The father told ninemsn he put the advertisement of his daughter on a popular buy-and-sell website on Thursday afternoon.

The listing, with a selling price of $0, has eight photographs of the girl, including one in her school uniform and another in a karate outfit.

He described his daughter in the listing as "very smart can be realy [sic] cute but can also be very hard work".

"Likes cats, good with other kids excellent condition, in trouble again for wearing make up to school.

"Free to good home, genuine enquiries only please no tyre kickers."

The listing includes a phone number for the father and his personal email address.

The father, a stainless steel worker, said he put the advertisement up "as a joke" and that he would "never give [his daughter]away".

"I put it on there and sent it to my wife at work ... I haven't showed my daughter — she'll be right.

"It was a way of punishing her ... she's been in trouble at school, wearing make-up, and been told off a couple of times.

"I asked her the other morning, 'you got make up on?' and she said, 'oh just a little bit'.

"She took it off and I told her if she got caught again she'd be grounded ... and then she came home because she got busted at school wearing makeup."

The father asked if ninemsn was interested in "taking [his daughter]", saying no one had yet enquired about his listing.

One man who saw the advertisement told ninemsn he contacted police immediately.

"I called the police station but an officer said there had to be a hotline for that ... he didn't seem too interested, he said he'd look into it," the man, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

"What if I were a pedophile or someone that abuses kids?

"Isn't he putting his child in harm's way by showing her identity online?

"She could be a runaway, a missing child or be kidnapped as far as anyone knows.

"It's disgusting for someone to do this, even if it is a as a joke."
