Party planner Rachel Uchitel is preparing to sue over a tabloid newspaper's claim she has been having a secret sexual affair with golf icon Tiger Woods.

Ms Uchitel has rubbished the National Enquirer's story, saying she has met Woods but "never had sex with him", according to gossip website TMZ.

TMZ reported that Woods crashed his car yesterday because of an argument he was having with his wife, former Swedish model Elin Nordegren, over the alleged affair.

The website said the couple were arguing over photographs the Enquirer took showing Ms Uchitel checking into the Melbourne Crown Towers earlier this month.

Woods stayed at the Crown Towers with his mother when he played the Australian Masters at Kingston Heath on November 15.

Ms Uchitel denied claims she followed Woods to the hotel, telling BlackBookMag.com "there's just no possible way I could have done that."

"You can't just walk into a place like that and ride the elevator to a floor with someone like Tiger Woods on it without someone seeing you and stopping you," she said.

The 34-year-old, who lost her fiance in the September 11 terrorist attacks, said she completely denied the Enquirer's story.

"[The newspaper] did contact me about it but they didn't use any of my quotes or any of the information I gave them," she said.

"They make it sound like I said those things, but it’s all other people saying I said things," she said.

Ms Uchitel said Ashley Samson, the "close friend" who provided the information to the Enquirer, was paid $27,000 for her story.

“I’ve met her twice in my life. We're not friends," she said.

"I'm just speculating but it seems like someone else is telling her what to say or manipulating her."

TMZ reports Ms Uchitel is preparing to sue the Enquirer for defamation with the help of celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred.

Ms Uchitel has previously been linked to former Buffy The Vampire Star and Angel actor David Boreanaz, who she reportedly had an affair with while he was married.

She told BlackBookMag in June last year she would "never kiss and tell" about her alleged affairs.

"Although I've been romantically linked to a famous baseball player, a Broadway star, a musician, and various film and television actors, I will never kiss and tell," Ms Uchitel said.

"Some of the simplest things in life make me happy, and I want to end up with someone who truly loves and respects me for who I am."

TMZ reported earlier today that the facial cuts Woods sustained yesterday were actually from his wife and not from the car crash.

The website said Nordegren confronted Woods about the alleged affair, scratching his face in a heated argument before Woods sought to leave the scene as his wife chased him with a golf club, hitting the vehicle several times before the crash.

Nordegren told police she heard the crash and then used a golf club to break the back window of the SUV to help her husband.

Woods was due to be interrogated by officials today but a spokesperson for the golfer said he and his wife would not be available for questioning.

It has also been reported that Nordegren has told police two different versions of what unfolded in the moments before and after yesterday's crash.

Meanwhile, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) insist the Woods incident is being treated as a "traffic crash."

"We don't believe it is a domestic issue, but everything is still under investigation," spokeswoman Kim Montes said.

While media gathered at Woods's exclusive neighbourhood, Montes said the FHP would not immediately release any information gleaned from their questioning of Woods.

The investigation will also include a review of the emergency 911 call, which Montes said police would obtain on Sunday or Monday.

Authorities said Woods crashed into the fire hydrant while leaving his property in the Windermere community, a suburb of Orlando.

FHP earlier said Woods was transported to the hospital in "serious condition," unleashing frantic media coverage.

"Our criteria for serious injuries might be different from that of a hospital," FHP spokesman Mark Welch said, referring to the initial police report.

Florida's Health Central Hospital confirmed Friday that Woods had been treated after a "minor car accident" and released "in good condition."

The golfer, who was resting at home, added: "We appreciate very much everyone's thoughts and well wishes."

Police said Woods was in a semi-conscious state outside the vehicle with his wife next to him when they arrived. He suffered cuts to both his upper and lower lips.

No charges have been filed as police said they are still investigating the cause of the crash. It is not yet clear who might face charges.

"She was frantic, upset," Windermere police chief Dan Saylor said of Nordegren, adding he had no knowledge of domestic problems between the couple. "It was her husband laying on the ground."

Woods, a 14-time major winner, was scheduled to play his last tournament of the year at the Chevron World Challenge at Thousand Oaks, California, December 3-6 — an event he hosts annually to benefit his charitable foundation.

He was scheduled to hold a news conference Tuesday in California.

According to Forbes business magazine, Woods is the first athlete to have broken through the billion-dollar earnings mark.

At age 25, he became the first man to win the US Open, the British Open, the USPGA and the Masters on a roll to make him the first simultaneous holder of all four major championship titles at the same time.

Earlier this month, Woods landed the Australian Masters but had returned home for a break prior to next week's tournament.

In addition to his Australian victory, Woods won six US PGA Tour titles this year and helped the United States win the Presidents Cup team match play title.

Although he failed to win a major, he has said he was pleased with the season which followed an eight-month layoff as he recovered from reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

The Woods have two children, Sam Alexis, born in 2007, and Charlie Axel, born earlier this year.
