A 26-year-old man has been charged over the fatal shooting of a man in Sydney's west.

Police charged the man with murder after a 25-year-old man was shot at a 21st birthday party at Davies Avenue, Merrylands, about 11.15pm (AEDT) on April 25.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Westmead Hospital, where he died.

Homicide Squad detectives have also charged the man with eight counts of supplying a prohibited drug, and possessing ammunition without a licence.

He remains in custody and will face Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday.

Detectives continue to appeal to anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
