A second elite athlete has come forward claiming he was molested by a top Australian swimming coach when he was in his teens.

Paul Shearer, 38, said the coach — who cannot be named — sexually abused him on two occasions more than 20 years ago, once at the man's Gold Coast home and another time in his car.

The claims come a day after Olympic medallist Greg Rogers revealed he was abused by high-profile coach Terry Buck during the 1960s.

Shearer, now a professional triathlete, said trauma associated with the abuse had twice brought him close to suicide.

"[The coach] befriended our family and down the track he went on to molest me or have sexual contact with me, you could say," he told the ABC.

"I'd be thinking to myself, 'no, this isn't happening', so I'd call in to say hello and then next thing, it was happening again … looking back on it now, it was almost like I was living in denial of what was taking place."

The man has reportedly been responsible for coaching some of Australia's top swimmers.

Shearer said his father suggested he go public with his story after the allegations surrounding Buck broke earlier this week.

Former Australian swim team coach and manager Buck, who died in a tractor accident in 2005, has also been accused of molesting other elite swimmers.

Swimming Australia boss Kevin Neil has vowed there will be no "cover-up" over the accusations and committed to an independent investigation.
