More Queensland flood trauma victims will have access to psychologists and social workers for little or no cost, with the federal government boosting mental health funding by $1.3 million.
Acting Health Minister Mark Butler said the additional money would complement specialist services being provided by the state government.
"No doubt there will be lasting mental health ramifications for some residents in the flood-affected areas who may have experienced loss or trauma," Mr Butler said in a statement.
"It is important that we reach out to flood victims and provide vital services for their recovery."
The extra $1.3 million would help provide psychological services at no or low cost to patients, he said.
The Queensland branch of the Australian Medical Association says if people are experiencing anxiety they should seek help sooner rather than later.
"The effects of this extremely stressful situation will be felt for weeks to come," Queensland AMA president Gino Pecoraro said in a statement.
"If people are feeling anxious they're urged to get help.
"Speaking to your local GP is a good place to start."
