Volunteering Queensland is thanking the more than 2500 NSW volunteers who have pitched in following the floods and is encouraging people to keep helping out.

"This recovery is going to be a long-term effort and impossible without the help of volunteers," Volunteering Queensland CEO Jelenko Dragisic said.

Mr Dragisic is also encouraging people with various different skills and availability to "put their name down" and register.

"The more volunteers we have registered the easier we can respond to requests for assistance," he said.

Mr Dragisic also assured volunteers who have already put their name down not to worry if they haven't received a call yet.

"We're working in collaboration with disaster management agencies, councils and the government to identify more volunteering opportunities," he said.

Mr Dragisic also said his organisation would continue sending volunteers into the community for as long as they're needed.
