A Sydney couple have become viral video superstars after sending up Hollywood blockbusters in a four-minute long video announcing their 2010 wedding date.

Jeff Wong and Erin Martin created the "Save the Date" video two months ago, parodying everything from Indiana Jones to the Matrix movies.

The video, first published on YouTube, went viral earlier this week after it was picked up by BuzzFeed, US news website The Huffington Post and popular entertainment blog PopCrunch.

It has since been republished on other smaller blogs and news sites.

But instead of stepping into the spotlight, Mr Wong and Ms Martin are now lying low and have even removed the video from YouTube.

Mr Wong told ninemsn the pair had been overwhelmed with offers from US networks and morning shows interested in their story.

"It's been surprisingly huge ... at first it was a bit entertaining but at some point we thought it was getting a bit too much," Mr Wong said.

"It's been very positive so it's not like we've had any negative response ... it definitely feels good to hear all the feedback."

Mr Wong said the video was taken off YouTube because the wedding was a "private affair".

"In other circumstances we'd enjoy the publicity but it's a wedding — something that is very personal and private with our family and friends," he said.

The video begins with a 20th Century Fox-style logo which has been replaced with the words "Erin and Jeff Studios".

A professional voice-over then tells the Hollywood-style story of how the couple met, Jeff's proposal on the shores of Sydney Harbour and their planned wedding "at a venue in Los Angeles".

The couple's blog reveals that they actually met at a jungle-themed party in September 2000. It says to "check back soon" for the real story of how Mr Wong proposed.

Special effects-heavy scenes from the Moulin Rouge, Indiana Jones and the Matrix movies were also re-enacted in the video.

Mr Wong refused to divulge how much the couple spent but their blog says the project was "not a high-budget production, except for the use of a nice DSLR which we already owned" and that it was "only ever intended for friends and family".

In order to stay within budget, the couple used the back of a store which was painted bright green in Sydney's inner-west to film the special effects scenes.

Other scenes were filmed in front of a red sheet hung in a friend's home while the customised 20th Century Fox logo was created using an online tutorial.

The couple became citizens of Australia only last year; Mr Wong is from Vietnam while Ms Martin is from the US.
