A woman in the US has sparked widespread debate after blogging about her abortion live on the internet.

Florida mother Angie Jackson published a candid YouTube video on February 22 describing how she was preparing to terminate her pregnancy with abortion pill RU-486.

"I'm having an abortion right now. It's not that bad, it's not that scary," Ms Jackson says in the video.

"I'm live-tweeting my abortion ... not for some publicity stunt, or attention, or to justify this to myself."

"I'm doing this so that other women know, 'Hey, it's not nearly as terrifying as I had myself worked up thinking it was'."

Ms Jackson, who lives with a boyfriend and four-year-old son with special needs, says doctors have advised her that another pregnancy will seriously threaten her health.

After posting the YouTube video, she used Twitter to describe the medication's effects in graphic detail in an online exercise she hoped would "demystify abortions for other women".

"Cramps are getting a bit more persistant [sic]," she tweeted.

"I'm so f****** wiped. Having trouble sleeping obviously. Just took 2 more [painkillers]. Started bleeding a LOT more today," another tweet read.

Jackson's "Abortion" video has now been watched over 80,000 times, while over 2300 Twitter users have signed up to follow her postings.

Online reactions to her experience have been split.

While some have applauded her bravery, others have quoted the bible while some have reportedly threatened violence against her and her family.

Family Research Council, a US Christian group, labelled her decision "a tragedy".
