Speaking for the first since she became an internet phenomenon, Ms Werbeloff expressed disbelief at the attention she has received after her made-up account of a Kings Cross shooting.

"I didn't think it would blow out of proportion like this and I wasn't thinking at the time … I didn't think anything of it," the 19-year-old waitress told A Current Affair last night.

"I don't want to be known as a racist — I love everyone.

"A few generations ago, wog might have been offensive … but this generation these days, we're skips, bogans, wogs, anything.

"I don't think people should take offence to anything like that … if you're proud of where you've come from, then it shouldn’t matter what people call you."

Ms Werbeloff said the past week had been the biggest of her life.

"On Sunday morning I did the interview and on Sunday night it was on the internet … the next day it was on YouTube with a thousand views," she said.

"The next day I had a fan page on Facebook [and] people have been setting up Twitter accounts.

"It's insane."

Ms Werbeloff's account of a shooting at a Kings Cross nightclub was exposed as a fake over the weekend.

"Aussies love playing around, they like jokes ... I just thought Australia would get it," she said.

Police investigating shooting of 27-year-old Justin Kallu confirmed Clare had lied.

"She has taken the media for a ride," an officer involved in the investigation told ninemsn, adding that Ms Werbeloff had never actually witnessed the shooting.

"She lied to the media but at no point did she tell police she had seen the shooting," he said.

She probably saw everything, then opened her big mouth, then probably got threatened and told to shut her mouth and change her story, and so she did..pretending it was all a hoax..

I think this situation should be a lesson for journalists. i think they are so desperate to hype any person or situation just to get a story. Yes, this girl will only have 5 mins of fame and the sooner she disappears from the media the better, she is one uneducated girl who needs to get a life.

I am sickened by the fact that this girl did nothing but lie about a serious event and has achieved exactly what she wanted... attention and fame (hopefully shortlived!!). Media outlets should stop giving her attention and report on worthy people and events, if she does end up with media work from this I certainly will not be watching or listening to anything she is involved with!

Has anyone mentioned to her the fact that wasting police resources for a prank is an indictable offence ? God help me if I ring 000 with some tall tale with or without sound effects (!). We don't have a racist on our hands, just an attention seeker who doesn't understand the serious nature of a police investigation. For all we know, the culprit is probably sitting at home, reading all these posts and laughing contentedly that the attention has been diverted. For goodness sakes, don't be so bloody sensitive!! That is half the problem these days - everyone is stressed as no-one can make a joke or use 'these' words without others getting uncontrolled blood pressure over it. She didn't use the word in a harsh or aggressive way so there was no intent to offend, incite or use the term negatively. It is sad obviously that someone was shot, but HOW MANY OF YOU WOULD HAVE EVEN PAID ATTENTION TO THAT IF THIS BOGAN GIRL HADN"T MADE HER COMMENTS!!!!! It would have been another shooting story that barely registered on viewers radars!! I still believe that terms such as used by Clare are racist, but this does not mean that the person is. I also feel that the media has a responsibility as to their content. If unsubstantuated claims can be promoted by the media with names and pictures involved, it must be realised that peoples lives can be destroyed in the long term, or even the short term where a false report by the media can make someones life so unbearable, that they could be inclined to suicide. Think, before you publish!
