Britain's justice system has come under fire after revelations that a man serving a manslaughter sentence has been repeatedly released to go partying.

Adam Briggs, 23, was sentenced to nine years behind bars for his role in arranging the death of a teenage girl but has been allowed out of prison for weeks at a time, the Daily Mail reports.

Under a government release scheme, Briggs has been able to pursue a relationship with a new girlfriend and go to parties only three-and-a-half years into his jail term.

The scheme allows prisoners who usually have less than two years to go until their release to leave prison for up to four weeks at a time.

Briggs has been able to spend two month-long stints staying at his mother's home in Sheffield in northern England, where his movements have reportedly been practically unrestricted.

He was convicted of helping his friend Lee Smith kill his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend.

Photos have been posted online of Briggs partying with his girlfriend Chrissy Foster, something which has been condemned by the father of the girl he helped kill.

"I've seen pictures of him on the internet smiling and having a good time and it's heartbreaking," Timothy Lemm was quoted as saying.

Briggs was convicted in July of 2006 for the crime.
