The body of a newlywed UK woman was discovered in a bath by her husband after she died from what appeared to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

Richard Haines returned home from his job to find his new wife Katie, 30, dead in the half-filled bathtub on Thursday evening, the Daily Mail reported.

His fears were raised immediately after finding their pet cat dead on the floor of the hallway.

Mr Haines also found his parents lying unconscious in downstairs rooms of the house, which he and his wife had just moved into.

The former Daily Express reporter was pronounced dead after ambulance officers' attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

Her father Gordon Samuel, a prominent art gallery owner in London, described her death as a parent's worst nightmare.

"Katie was such a huge presence in our lives and I don't know how myself, her mother Avril and husband Richard will fill this void in our lives," he said.

The couple married in December 2009 and had recently returned from their honeymoon.

Tests are continuing but it is suspected the carbon monoxide which killed Mrs Haines came from a leaking boiler.
