Three people have plunged to their deaths from a high-rise block of flats in Scotland, police say, in what neighbours believe was a triple suicide by asylum seekers to avoid deportation.

The bodies of two men and a woman were found at the bottom of the 30-storey block in Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city, early on Sunday. It is believed they had fallen from the 15th floor.

There was no official confirmation of their identities but local resident Elaine Sandford said she believed they were Kosovans who were facing deportation.

"I think they had a letter through the door that said they were coming back for them," said the 40-year-old.

Another resident Elizabeth Neilson, 42, said: "It is horrible. I was traumatised. I phoned the concierge and he said he couldn't say much, but that three people had thrown themselves off the veranda."

Police said inquiries were ongoing to establish their identities and post-mortem examinations would take place.

"At this time there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances," said a spokesman.

The block is part of a complex of flats due to be demolished, which at one time were the highest in Europe.

In recent years, the flats - many of which are currently empty - have housed asylum seekers from Kosovo, Africa, Asia, Iran and Iraq.
