Man's chin swells to size of ball

A Chinese man suffers from a rare medical condition which makes his chin swell to the size of a small basketball.

Chang Du, from Luoyang in central China's Henan province, said the tumour began as a small bump on his chin which kept growing even after he was prescribed medication by a local herbal doctor.

"After a few days of taking the medication my mouth started to swell up," Chang said.

"It started with a nail-sized bump, and I wanted to rub it down, but it grew bigger and bigger after I rubbed it.

"I didn't go to the hospital due to poverty."

The 71-year-old said he had not left his home in over five years because he fears he will scare people.

The growth stops Chang from eating or speaking properly. He has appealed to the media for help because his family is unable to pay for treatment.

A local hospital said Chang's lower jaw must be replaced at a cost of around $7900.
