A body found in a church roof in Italy is believed to be that of a schoolgirl who went missing in 1993, according to reports.
The discovery could shed new light on another unsolved murder in Britain nine years later, with the two dead women from different countries linked to the same man, the Daily Mail reported.
A body, believed to be that of 16-year-old Elisa Claps who went missing from her home town of Potenza in 1993, was discovered in a church rooftop garrett, Italian police revealed yesterday.
Police believe one of the last people to have seen Ms Claps alive was Danilo Restivo, who since moved to Bournemouth, in southern England, the town where mother-of-two Heather Barnett was murdered.
Mrs Barnett's mutilated body was found in the bathroom of her house by her children in 2002.
While Mr Restivo has denied any involvement in either of the unsolved murders, he has been questioned by both Italian and British police.
Mr Restivo was arrested in connection with Mrs Barnett's murder but never charged.
The body believed to be that of Ms Claps was discovered by workmen in the Italian church.
