A former Miss Oregon beauty queen and her boyfriend have charged with murder after the man's five-year-old daughter died in hospital, US police say.
Police were called to the home of Christopher Rosillo and fiance Gaudalupe Quintero on April 13 where they discovered Oleander Labier unconscious on the floor, ABC News reports.
The girl was rushed to hospital but died a short time later from "homicidal violence", investigators said. Quintero was not the biological mother of Oleander.
Sergeant Rick Wilson from the couple's home town of Gresham, Oregon, said it was the worst case of child abuse he had seen in his 20-year career.
Neighbours said Oleander was fragile, often seen walking around in her yard with a feeding tube.
Local television station KATU said Quintero was crowned Miss Clackamas County in 2006 and was a chosen to represent Oregon in the conveted Miss USA competition.
In the pageant's program Quintero said: "Never stop dreaming, dreams really do come true."
Blurry video footage of the event shows Quintero with her jet-black hair slicked back and walking down a catwalk in a diamond-strapped, long black dress.
Quintero and Rosillo share two other children — an 11-month-old and a three-year-old, who have been placed in protective custody.
