A US family is crediting the household dog with saving the life of their newborn baby after the pup alerted them that the child wasn't breathing.
Jenna Brosseau and her husband were asleep last Sunday night when their dog "Duke" jumped on their bed and started "shaking" them, KSDK News reports.
The Connecticut couple said they knew something was wrong because the behaviour was out of character for the dog.
When they checked on their nine-week-old daughter Harper they discovered she had stopped breathing.
Mrs Brousseau's husband called paramedics who revived the child.
"He's the perfect dog. He was meant to be ours, and meant to be hers," Mrs Brosseau said of the dog, which the couple adopted from an animal shelter six years ago.
"I tell him all the time you were born in mommy's heart, just because he was so meant to be ours. He's heaven. He's a good boy."
Harper will reportedly make a full recovery. The parents said they hope their story will inspire others to adopt dogs.
