Democrat supporters around the world have turned out in force to celebrate the re-election of Barack Obama.
From early in the morning supporters flocked to organised events to await news of the result.
After Obama was officially announced as the winner this afternoon celebrations erupted around the US, with fans dancing and waving banners to mark the win.
People also gathered at US embassies across Europe including Germany, Italy and Britain, where an election party in London embraced the American spirit by reportedly including a McDonald's restaurant and Dixieland jazz band.
School children around the world were also part of the action, with students in Malaysia and South Korea photographed at events organised by US embassies.
In Canberra, supporters gathered at the National Press Club to watch the results unfold.
Victory parties will no doubt continue long into the night for Democrat supporters.
