A funny car driver in the US walked away unscathed after his vehicle exploded and disintegrated as he streaked down a drag strip at high speed.
Jack Beckman was attempting to qualify for the NHRA Funny Car Championship in Pomona, California on Thursday when his car burst into flames.
"I went for the chutes, but the lever was gone with the rest of the body," he said.
"I'm thinking, 'Okay, the body is gone, just don't wreck car. But there was oil on my visor, so I couldn't see where the wall was. Other than that, it was just a routine run."
Despite the setback Beckman still qualified fifth fastest and walked away from the fiery crash, waving to the cheering crowd.
While his escape was remarkable Beckman is not the first driver to survive a seemingly life-threatening crash without a scratch.
