A pregnant woman upset that Barack Obama had been reelected as president allegedly ran over her husband for not voting in last week's US election.
Police said Holly Solomon, 28, believed her family was going to face hardship because of the president's reelection.
After a political argument, the Arizona woman allegedly chased her husband through a car park in the family 4WD.
Witnesses told police there was a lot of yelling and Daniel Solomon at one point hid behind a light pole to protect himself while his wife circled him.
When he tried to run away, his wife allegedly pinned him between the underside of the car and the curb.
There were reportedly no signs that the woman was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Arizona Republic reports Mr Solomon suffered a pelvic fracture and torn arteries and may be left permanently disfigured.
Solomon, who is six months pregnant, has been arrested for domestic violence and aggravated assault.
It is understood the couple, who have been married for two years, do not have a history of domestic violence.
Mr Solomon's vote would not have swung the election. Mitt Romney won the state of Arizona comfortably and Barack Obama won nationwide by a margin of more than 3 million votes.
