A US mum has filmed the moment her returned serviceman husband surprised their young son by dressing up as Spiderman and jumping over the backyard fence.
Sergeant Jason Reynolds from North Carolina has been posted in Afghanistan since September but returned home on December 27 on emergency leave for the birth of his daughter.
The video shows three-year-old Noah in the backyard when Spiderman jumps down from the fence and kneels to let the boy take off his mask.
The excited boy takes a moment before realising the masked superhero is his father.
"He surprised me. Daddy you surprised me."
Mr Reynolds did not make it in time for the birth of his daughter but said he is happy to be with his family for another week.
"I know that he's (Noah) been missing me lately, so I wanted to do something a little bit more special for him because of the newborn in the house" he said.
"I want to make sure he still understands he's just as important as she is."
Mr Reynolds said Noah now believes that Spiderman is his father's uniform on duty.
"I'm pretty sure he actually believes I dress up as Spiderman to go fight the bad guys."
