Two young US boys have been arrested after allegedly plotting to kill a classmate because they thought she was "really annoying" and rude.
The boys, aged 10 and 11, planned to use a stolen semi-automatic gun and a knife to lure the girl outside the school and kill her, authorities said on Thursday.
After a tip-off from another student, staff at Fort Colville Elementary in Washington state found the weapons and an ammunition clip in the boys' backpacks.
"She's rude and always makes fun of me and my friends," court documents recorded the younger boy, who had been dating the girl, as saying.
"I was going to kill her with the knife and (the older boy) was supposed to use the gun to keep anyone from trying to stop me or mess up our plan."
The younger child allegedly took the gun from a gun case in his older brother's room after finding a hidden key.
Authorities said the boys also identified six more students from a class list provided by school staff that they planned to "get" in the same way.
The pair won't be tried as adults and are expected to appear in court next Wednesday for a capacity hearing.
