A US woman found out she was pregnant and delivered a 4.5kg baby the same day.
Linda Ackley, a 44-year-old from Michigan who had been told she could never have children, arrived at hospital on February 8 believing she had a hernia, the Jackson Citizen Patriot newspaper reports.
Mrs Ackley was booked in for a CT scan to check for the suspected hernia after she had complained of a “bloated abdomen” a week earlier.
Instead the scan revealed she was pregnant.
Doctors initially told Mrs Ackley her surprise baby was due in three to four weeks but a second scan showed that she had already carried the baby to full term, 40 weeks.
The baby, a healthy baby girl named Kimberley Kay, was delivered by caesarian section that same night.
"She is our miracle baby," Mrs Ackey said.
Stunned father Mike Ackey was given the news of his baby daughter over the phone.
"Some people have nine months to prepare. I had hours," he said.
"I wish someone would have taken a picture of my face."
Just two years earlier Mrs Ackey had a serious health scare after contracting necrotizing fasciitis, a bacterial infection that attacks soft tissue.
She spent a week in a coma and was told she might not live.
Mrs Ackey said her survival had given her new meaning.
"God wanted me here for something," she said.
