A 16-year-old girl was taken into captivity and raped 90 times in one weekend, according to a scathing new report on modern-day slavery in Britain.
The report by the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ), due to be published tomorrow, contains evidence from the teenage girl who became enslaved after befriending girls vulnerable to abuse, the Daily Mail reports.
The report makes 80 recommendations, including the appointment of an independent anti-slavery commissioner, after finding that more than 1000 children and adults were trafficked into or within Britain in 2011-2012.
However, the report said that these figures were "a pale reflection of the true size of the problem" and that the sexual exploitation of children was in a "state of crisis".
The investigation found that British and foreign victims had been forced into the sex trade, domestic labour or criminal activity.
Christian Guy, managing director of the CSJ think-tank, said their research had uncovered a shocking underworld in which authorities were either failing to understand, or turning a blind eye to its existence.
