Police in Taiwan have apprehended a man wanted on drug charges after he unwittingly wore a T-shirt declaring that he was a fugitive.
The suspect, identified only by his surname of Wu, was spotted by officers in the town of Huwei, in the southern county of Yunlin, last week wearing a T-shirt with the word "Wanted" emblazoned in English across it.
The Taiwanese man apparently knew no English.
But a patrolling police officer, who passed an elementary-level nationwide English proficiency test, knew enough to recognise what the word meant and decided to approach Wu about it.
Wu told the officer the T-shirt was a gift from his son and he would not have worn it had he known what "Wanted" meant.
But the officer decided to run a background check anyway and discovered that Wu was actually a man wanted on drug abuse charges.
He was promptly arrested.
