A teenage actress in Pakistan has had acid thrown on her face after she allegedly turned down a marriage proposal from a television producer.
Bushra Waiz, 18, is in a critical condition in hospital after she was attacked in the courtyard of her home in Nowshera, northwest of Islamabad, on June 21.
Doctors say the teen has burns to 33 percent of her body - on her face, shoulders, right eye, arm and leg.
The family claims local TV drama producer Shaukat Khan attacked Bushra after she refused to marry him.
Shaukat allegedly barged into the home in the early hours of the morning, proposed to Bushra and threw acid over her when she turned him down, local media reports.
Bushra's brother Akhtar Waiz said the pair were also fighting about unpaid wages.
"I couldn't see him myself, but I am sure he was Shaukat as my sister had refused to continue working in his dramas and that’s why he resorted to this act of violence," he said.
Bushra's mother also sustained burns while trying to shield her daughter.
Police are now investigating the incident.
