A 24-year-old Indian woman has claimed she was forcibly married and gang-raped at the orders of her village council.
The panchayat, or village council, reportedly forced the woman to marry a cuckolded husband after her brother eloped with the man's wife.
It was demanded the woman's parents pay Rs 75,000 ($A1371) as compensation to her new in-laws.
The unnamed woman also claims she was raped by her two brothers-in-law on the day of her wedding.
The brutal "honour" punishment was revealed when the victim found the courage to file a complaint with police.
"I agreed to [their] decision because I knew that there would be bloodbath in the village if I refused to marry him," the woman told police.
"My brothers-in-law raped me mercilessly the same day I married. It became a routine."
"My father-in-law claimed that he had agreed to my marriage since he wanted to take revenge [on my family] this way."
The woman's elder brother alleged members of the village council were present when the fate of his sister was decided.
"[The husband of the panchayat chief] was very vocal and wanted the harshest punishment for us," he said.
The village council later justified the alleged rapists' actions, saying "an eye for eye is the actual justice".
Senior superintendent of police Manzil Sanini confirmed he had met with the victim and the accused men would be arrested.
