A teenage girl in the US who was terrified by a baseball-sized spider called 911 to report the arachnid intruder and was surprised when the operator took her seriously and deployed an officer.
The 16-year-old Oregon girl, who has not been identified, made the call from her Forest Grove home on August 16, KPTV reports.
The teen prefaced her call with a warning.
"I just kind of have a ridiculous question," she said.
""I'm home alone and there is a giant spider on the back of my couch, and I'm talking giant. I've never seen a spider this big and I have no idea what to do."
"Is that ridiculous?"
The operator may have agreed but he sent out a police officer regardless, who dispatched the eight-legged offender with a rolled-up newspaper.
The police said they do not usually respond to incidents of this type but decided to help the teenager.
