A US boy has sobbed for joy after his Afghanistan war veteran father surprised him at his local "Indians" football game.
Army staff Sergeant Brandon Pickett had returned to the family's Illinois hometown the night before, after serving nine months overseas, but waited until morning to unveil the news to his son, Jayce.
The emotional reunion was filmed by Sgt Pickett's wife Kylie and shared online on Saturday, netting more than 23,000 views.
Preparing to enter the field, Sgt Pickett records a message for Jayce, telling the interviewer he hopes the surprise makes up for all those games he missed while away.
"Hey Jayce, it's your dad here," he says. "I can't wait to see the look on your face."
Just as play is about to kick off, a commentator interrupts to announce Sgt Pickett's presence.
A stunned Jayce claps for a moment before turning to spot his father on the sideline.
He runs to embrace Sgt Pickett and sobs heavily over his father's shoulder.
Returning to the game, a teammate puts a comforting hand on Jayce's helmet, as his dad watches on wiping tears from his eyes.
