British diving star and pin-up boy of the London Games 2012 Tom Daley, has revealed he is dating a man in a YouTube video.
In a heartfelt message to his fans, the 19-year-old explained that he is in a relationship with a man but that he still "fancies" girls.
"Come spring this year, my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. And that someone is a guy," he said.
Daley has repeatedly dismissed rumours he is gay, telling The Mirror just three months ago, shortly after being voted the world's ¬sexiest man by iconic gay magazine Attitude, that he "laughs off" such rumours.
Daley said his new relationship took him "by surprise a little bit".
"It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen but it wasn't until spring this year that something just clicked," he said.
The Olympian said friends and relatives he had told about his relationship had been supportive but there were "mixed opinions" from some family members.
Some questioned what his father would have said. His father, Rod Daley, died in May 2011 following a battle with brain cancer.
Some encouraged Daley to keep quiet, while others suggested he "come out" in a magazine cover story or a TV interview.
"I didn't want to get my words twisted," he said. "I wanted to put an end to all the rumours and speculation."
Daley set about doing that by posting a link to his video confessional to his 2.4 million Twitter followers, with the message: "Got something I need to say...not been an easy decision to make, hope you can support me!"
"I'm still Tom. I still want to win an Olympic gold medal at Rio 2016 for Great Britain," he said in the video.
"I'm still as motivated as ever to do that."
Daley won bronze in the 10m platform at the London Games.
