A Polish airport security officer has pulled off a classic catch to rival any cricket player's.

CCTV footage reportedly shows a man placing a baby boy on a counter after passing through security gates at Katowice Airport, Poland.

As the man gathers his belongings, the baby rolls off the table and seems destined for a painful landing — until security guard Grzegorz Paczko dives out of nowhere to catch the child the moment before it hits the tiled floor.

Paczko told Polish news channel TVN24 that he was standing four or five metres from the boy when he saw him start to fall.

He said he instinctively dived with his arms outstretched to catch the child, who was handed over to his nearby mother after the rescue.

Airport spokesperson Cezary Orzech warned travelling parents to keep watch on their children, saying that the family would have missed their flight if the boy had landed on the floor because he would have needed to be taken for a check-up.

The incident happened on November 23 and the airport has only now released the footage of the impressive catch.
