Shocking footage of a US radio star being savagely bludgeoned with a baseball bat by muggers while visiting his children in the Bronx has been released by police.
Pelagio De La Cruz, who hosts a radio talk show in Boston, is yet to regain consciousness after the brutal attack on Sunday and is in a critical condition in hospital, local media report.
The 52-year-old has several broken bones and may lose one of his eyes.
Surveillance footage shows one of the attackers swinging wildly with a baseball bat, beating De La Cruz as he lay defenceless on the street.
It is understood De La Cruz, who was in New York visiting his children, was walking to his estranged wife's home after a night out when the attack occurred.
De la Cruz had been pushing the button to try to get into her apartment building when his attackers came up behind him and swung at his head with the baseball bat, hitting him seven more times after he fell to the ground, New York's Daily News reports.
The muggers then stole De la Cruz's wallet, gold chain and mobile and fled.
De la Cruz lay unnoticed for about 30 to 45 minutes before a passerby spotted his bloody body and called for help.
