A mysterious photo of a person wearing old-fashioned clothing in a Scottish castle's window has ghost-doubting skeptics baffled.

Tourist Christopher Aitchison snapped the figure looking through the window of Tantallon Castle in the East Lothian region of Scotland in May last year, the BBC reports.

"I was not aware of anyone or anything being present in my picture, only noticing the anomaly when I got home," he was quoted as saying.

"Some people have suggested it's just light reflecting on rocks, and one person suggested it may be King James V of Scotland."

Mr Aitchison's photo was one of 250 ghostly images submitted for 'Hauntings", an event at the Edinburgh International Science Festival examining the existence of ghosts.

Experts said the photograph was not manipulated, but psychologist and ghost skeptic Professor Richard Wiseman, who launched the investigation, was not convinced.

"I suppose it could be another visitor looking a bit strange… perhaps someone will come forward," he said.
