The mistress of a British man accused of strangling his new wife claims he throttled her during sex.

Michael Roberts, who has denied murdering 25-year-old Nicky in November last year, has told a British court his spouse's death was accidental after a sex game went wrong.

Mr Roberts, 27, told Liverpool Crown Court his wife of five months asked him to wrap a bathrobe rope around her neck before instructing him to tighten it several times during a kinky sex game.

But the prosecution alleges he killed Nicky after she found out he was cheating on her before wrapping up her body and hiding it in their garage.

Kerrie Hall, a colleague at the mobile phone store where the accused was an assistant manager, admitted in court that she developed a "purely sexual" relationship with Mr Roberts after meeting in November 2008.

But she says she drew the line when he became rough during their "gymnastic" sessions in bed, including when he squeezed her neck so hard he left a bruise.

"I didn't like it at all and told him to get off me," the Daily Mail reported Ms Hall as saying.

"He bruised me quite a few times. "

Mr Roberts allegedly sent text messages from his wife's phone after her death to create the illusion she had left him for another man.

He then briefly went on the run after police discovered Nicky's body before being arrested in Wrexham on December 6.

The court also heard Mr Roberts engaged in an affair with another co-worker, Karen Wilson, last October.

The trial continues.
