A father has successfully delivered his baby son just hours after watching do-it-yourself videos on YouTube.

Marc Stephens, a naval engineer from Britain, hit the web for help when his heavily pregnant wife Jo starting feeling some discomfort about 10pm on March 20, UK’s Telegraph newspaper reports.

He had no idea the "cheesy" how-to-give-birth videos would come in handy when his wife went into rapid labour four hours later.

"As soon as she dropped down I looked down and its head was sticking out," he said.

"When Jo said, 'You might deliver this one,' as a joke, I didn't believe it — you just don't think it's going to happen.

"To be honest I didn't have time to panic."

Mrs Stephens, who has three other children, had planned to have a home birth with help from a hospital midwife.

But the hospital told Mr Stephens it was too busy to spare anyone to help in time and instead suggested he call an ambulance.

By this stage, however, the arrival was too near to wait for anyone and he realised he had to take matters into his own hadns.

Mr Stephens said the YouTube videos only lasted a couple of minutes and did not give explanations in great detail, but he still found them useful.

Little Gabriel was delivered healthily and taken to hospital for check-ups.

Remarkably, Mrs Stephens, who has a history of rapid births, said it was the most relaxed of her four labours.
